This playbook provides troubleshooting guidance for Control 1.10.
Common Issues
Issue: Policy Not Detecting Violations
Symptoms: Known violations not generating alerts
Solutions:
- Verify policy is enabled
- Check user scope includes target users
- Verify location scope (Teams, email, etc.)
- Review keyword/SIT configuration
- Check classifier is enabled and trained
- Validate message type is supported for monitoring
- Verify audit logs show underlying activity
Issue: Too Many False Positives
Symptoms: High volume of non-violation alerts
Solutions:
- Tune keyword lists (add exclusions)
- Adjust sensitivity thresholds
- Review and refine classifiers
- Add context conditions
- Use sample-based review instead of 100%
- Track tuning changes and compare volumes
Issue: Reviewers Not Receiving Alerts
Symptoms: Alerts stuck in queue
Solutions:
- Verify reviewer role assignments
- Check email notifications configured
- Verify reviewer mailbox is active
- Review routing rules
- Check for Teams notification issues
- Confirm reviewer can access Purview UI
Issue: Copilot Conversations Not Captured
Symptoms: Agent interactions not appearing
Solutions:
- Verify Copilot location is selected in policy
- Check licensing for Copilot capture
- Review audit log for Copilot events
- Verify agent is integrated with monitored channel
- Validate interaction type is supported
- Open Microsoft support ticket if needed
Issue: Classifiers Not Working
Symptoms: AI classifiers not detecting expected content
Solutions:
- Verify classifier is enabled in settings
- Check classifier availability in your tenant
- Review classifier requirements (training data)
- Test with known content that should match
- Allow time for classifier processing
Issue: OCR Not Processing Images
Symptoms: Sensitive content in images not detected
Solutions:
- Verify OCR is enabled in settings
- Check image is in supported format
- Verify image quality is sufficient
- Check attachment is within size limits
- Review OCR processing logs
Issue: Alert Routing Not Working
Symptoms: Alerts not reaching correct reviewers
Solutions:
- Verify priority user groups configured
- Check alert routing rules
- Confirm notification settings
- Verify reviewer email addresses
- Check for mail flow issues

If issues persist:
- First tier: Communication Compliance Admin - policy configuration
- Second tier: Purview Administrator - platform settings
- Third tier: Legal/Compliance - escalation procedures
